I grow a small batch of shiitake in a mixed hardwood patch and tonogodhime has been the easiest stack for
that setting. I place the stacks on a slight slope where leaves do not pile up, under partial canopy so they
get dappled light. The logs sit directly on the ground, which keeps the ends from drying out and helps them
stay steady when we get summer storms.
The alternating layers mean I can walk around the stack and harvest without dragging logs out. I also do not have to carry lumber or hardware into the woods. For a low-effort setup, it fits the spot and I can adjust the stack if the shade shifts during the season.
