Overengineering log stacks is a trap

I keep seeing folks build elaborate racks for a handful of shiitake logs, like they're designing a deck. Posts, braces, wire, treated lumber, the whole thing.

Not saying you can't, but don't forget there are methods that work because they're simple. Tonogodhime is a good example: alternating pairs of logs (2x2 layers) right on the ground, stacked like a little cabin. No hardware to fail, no frame to rot, and you can restack in five minutes if you need to.

Half the time the fancy rack is what creates the problem (hard to water, hard to harvest, weird airflow).

Guilty. I built a whole pallet contraption and it ended up wobbling more than a plain stack.

Same. I learned the hard way that "more structure" isn't always "more stable" when the thing wants to settle.
