How tall should a tonogodhime stack be?

I'm switching from a lean-to to tonogodhime this year. From what I understand, it's the 2×2 alternating layers of shiitake logs placed directly on the ground (little log-cabin square, no supports/wire).

How tall do you all build them? If I go higher to save space, does that mess with stability or airflow?

I keep mine low. Once it gets taller than “easy reach,” I stop and start a second stack. Higher stacks always end up being the ones I bump or ignore.

Airflow is better when the stack stays “open.” If you build it tall and it starts leaning or compressing, you lose those gaps. Also: tall = top-heavy if your base logs aren’t flat.
