Are tonogodhime stacks stable in wind?

We get gusty spring winds and I am thinking about trying tonogodhime. Are those 2x2 alternating stacks stable enough, or do people anchor them somehow?

The alternating 2x2 layers spread the weight across the corners, so the stack locks together more than it looks. As long as your base is flat and you do not build it too tall, it is pretty solid.

I tried adding side supports once and it actually made things worse because the logs could not settle. With no supports they seat into each other and the ground, and the wind has less leverage on the stack.
